The intended activities are for students to investigate a variety of aspects of city life gathering research material both in the classroom and in the field. Students will explore issues facing their city.
Discussion through blogging and email will be encouraged so participant students and teachers can ascertain what the global issues for cities are. Students will work in small groups to complete research and other tasks.Â
Beginning with the question what do you want from the place where you live and what constitutes a liveable city – together participant students will determine what criteria should be used to determine what makes a liveable city?
Each class will then prepare a report on their location what aspects and issues within their city combine to makes their city the most liveable. Working in partnership with the other class’s student will prepare a chart listing the strengths and weaknesses of each location.
The aim of our project is to enhance existing city projects and studies of urban areas in Geography and issues in English as well as helping to create students ready for the global world they are living in and have less of the ‘me’ society and more of a global community approach. Enhance student use of their laptops and other technologies and encourage a more rounded world view of issues.
